The Bernese Oberland is the Alps at their most storybook: emerald valleys grazed by cattle with bells, timber chalets spilling geraniums, and the colossal north face of the Eiger watching over it all. Cog railways and cable cars climb to viewpoints that once took mountaineers days to reach.
It is a destination for every season and every pace — gentle lake steamers and rack-railways for some, high passes and glacier walks for others. We base you in Grindelwald, Wengen or Mürren and build days that range from easy to exhilarating, always with somewhere wonderful for lunch.
Trip highlights
Jungfraujoch — Top of Europe
Ride the railway through the heart of the Eiger to the highest station in Europe, with an ice palace and views across the Aletsch Glacier.
Trails for every level
From the flower-lined Eiger Trail to gentle valley paths and the First cliff walk, we map routes to your fitness and appetite for height.
Car-free mountain villages
Stay in Wengen or Mürren — reachable only by rail or cable car — where the loudest sound is the cowbells and the air is impossibly clean.
